Further information:
Borax has been used as a remedy for over 4000 years. It is a potent, inexpensive and effective remedy that should be in every home

What is Borax?
Borax (sodium tetraborate decahydrate or sodium borate) is a naturally occurring mineral composed of sodium, boron, oxygen and water which contains approximately 11% boron by weight.  Do not confuse or substitute borax with boric acid!

Most commercially produced borax is mined from deposits produced by the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes. It is found in large quantities in the Western United States, in Mediterranean countries, Kazakhstan, and the Tibet region of China. Turkey is one of the largest commercial producers of borates.

In healthy soil, the organic matter holds the boron. If there is insufficient organic content in the soil, any boron will quickly leach away. Adding soluble nitrogen fertilisers to soils causes them to lose their carbon (organic) content. This means that conventional chemical farming does enormous damage to soil structure. Most of the minerals in the soil are gradually depleted, but the most severely and rapidly depleted is the boron content of the soil. Unfortunately it is not possible to spray boron compounds back onto the soil, because they are deadly to ants and some other insects. The best way to restore boron in soil is to add it to compost and then add that back to the soil. This means that most non-organic farms around the world today are severely deficient in boron.

Dietary sources of Boron:
Most people only get between 1.7 and 7 mg of boron per day, mainly from fruits, nuts, legumes and vegetables. This level represents a severe deficiency, with the deficiency being worse for people living in those areas where there is little or no boron in the soil. Boron tends to concentrate in the bone, tooth enamel, nails, spleen and the parathyroid gland. It is quickly and easily excreted, primarily through the urine. A regular dietary source of boron is required, as few reserves are held in the body.

 Using Borax as a remedy:
Borax has successfully been used as a remedy for the prevention and treatment of a variety of ailments. It has also been used by doctors and homeopaths for more than 200 years for its anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Very effective for bladder infection and urinary tract infection (UTI). For other infections apply topically or take internally diluted to the recommended dose.
  • Supplementation with Borax alleviates inflammation and joint stiffness.
  • Blood lipid disorders, hypertension (high blood pressure), arterial diseases.
  • Cancer. Boron may be a preventative for prostate cancer.
  • Erectile dysfunction: A quarter of a teaspoon of borax added to 1 litre of water sipped during the course of the day and taken in conjunction with a magnesium supplement has been shown to reverse erectile dysfunction (impotency). Borax has also been shown to enhance female libido..
  • Gout. Boron is an effective remedy.
  • Obesity.
  • Osteoarthritis is a wearing away of the cartilage of joints, particularly those that have been subject to trauma, infection or over-use when injured. It is more common in men. The cartilage or tough fibrous matter around the joint wears away and the bones rub against each other, causing pain and further permanent damage to the joint.
  • Osteoporosis (decalcification of the bones) or osteopaenia.
  • Other bone and connective tissue diseases such as Dupuytren’s disease.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis. This is an inflammatory autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own joints, causing degeneration and deformity. It is more common in women and can occur at any age. Often it develops into osteoarthritis. Work by Prof Roger Wyburn-Mason identified an amoeba in the joint as the cause in certain susceptible people. Borax controls the amoeba which has been linked to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Skin anti-aging: Borax added to skin moisturisers deters the loss of moisture and elasticity which occurs with the ageing process.
  • Spondylitis (arthritis of the spine with inflammation in the joints). Calcium is lost from the spinal vertebrae, leading to fusion and disc degeneration. Spondylitis responds to mineral treatments, particularly boron.
  • Swollen gums or loose teeth (pyorrhoea). This is a bit like arthritis of the teeth and gums.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus.

Uterine inflammation: Doctors of the 19th and 20th century recommended that women suffering from womb inflammation soak in a lukewarm bath of borax twice daily.

Tooth / teeth health:
Have you considered boron as a nutrient for healthier teeth and bones? It may be a great natural way to strengthen your teeth and prevent tooth decay

“The connection between healthy strong teeth, gums, and rest of the body is the first thing I discuss with patients. One thing I always try and help people understand, the way your feed your body, is what it uses to make strong bones and teeth. Boron is a nutrient you may never have considered to prevent tooth decay naturally.”  https://www.drstevenlin.com/boron-benefits/

Hair:
Borax has become popular as a shampoo alternative
Multitudes of chemicals in shampoos and health conditions that affect the scalp have motivated many people to turn to this method of hair care
Borax is not only a natural alternative to chemical-laden shampoos because of its alkalinity and anti-fungal properties; it often brings healing to chronic and embarrassing scalp conditions

Instructions for Hair application:
To use borax for your hair, dissolve 1 cup of borax into one gallon of pure water

  • Keep this solution in the shower
  • Pour a cup or two of this solution over your hair instead of shampoo, making sure that the solution gets to your scalp
  • Allow the solution to sit on your scalp and hair for a few minutes and then rinse
  • If you find the borax method dries out your hair, take a small amount of coconut oil and massage it into your hair. You may not need to use the borax solution on your hair more than once or twice a week

 Possible side effects:
If you experience an unpleasant effect from Borax, reduce or temporarily stop Borax intake until the problem subsides. Any side effects are usually healing reactions such as the Herxheimer reaction e.g. when treating Canidida infection. Additional helpful measures may be increasing fluid intake, adding acids such as lemon juice, ascorbic acid or vinegar and improving lymph flow by walking or rebounding etc. Start off slowly and build up.

When purchasing borax:
Avoid any borax that has any ‘added’ ingredients.
You may be concerned about the warnings on borax containers and some of what you read on the internet. However, borax’s toxicity is about the same as sodium chloride (table salt).
Borax is mined and is commonly sold as 99% or 99.5% pure technical or agricultural grade. Possible impurities consist of common elements and salts such as calcium, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbonate, bicarbonate, sulphate and phosphate. There is no “food grade” borax available or necessary, as long as the supplier has not added any perfumes, colours or additives.

How Much Boron is in Borax?
One US teaspoon of borax powder contains about 4 grams of borax, so ¼ teaspoon of borax contains about 1 gram of borax. One gram of borax is 11.3% boron. So ¼ teaspoon borax has approximately 113 mg of boron.

How Much Borax Should I Take?
Earth Clinic’s Ted recommends ¼ teaspoon (940 mg ~ 1,000 mg) of borax in 1 liter of purified water for men and
1/8 teaspoon (470 mg ~ 500 mg) of borax in 1 liter of water for women each day
This would give men about 113 mg of boron each day they drink the solution and women about 56 mg of boron daily
……….

Borax toxicity:
We only need very small quantities of boron for good health and to prevent diseases such as arthritis. In large quantities it may have adverse effects, just like any other compound.  Borax and boric acid have very low toxicity.

Conclusion:
Borax is an invaluable, safe and effective treatment for many different requirements when used as directed. Widespread deficiencies of Boron necessitate supplementation and Borax is an inexpensive and easy way to achieve this.

How should I store Borax Solution?
If you make Walter Last’s solution with distilled water and store it in a clean glass jar, you will avoid having any impurities to contaminate the mixture. This will maximize the shelf life of the solution. For even more exceptional preservation of this solution, store it in the refrigerator and always use a clean stainless steel spoon to take your dose out of the jar. If your solution looks cloudy or smells off to you, discard it and make another batch

**********

What we have found as a successful means of taking Borax is to mix up a jar-full as described above and then add a little to tea, coffee, fruit drinks and smoothies.   Then it is tasteless and really easy to take.
Just keep it simple!
